Program Associate

USGBC-CA Program Associate
The Program Associate supports a range of programs and initiatives such as Building Performance, Green Homes, Green Business, Clean Construction, and more with a focus on community engagement, outreach, and logistical administration. This role is responsible for working directly with communities on the frontlines of climate change to provide sustainability resources, including education and program enrollment, and providing operational support to ensure the successful and timely execution of program goals.

The ideal candidate is a highly organized, innovative problem-solver who is passionate about sustainability and eager to drive cultural and climate change. They possess excellent communication skills, thrive as a natural collaborator in a small team environment, and demonstrate flexibility in managing diverse administrative and community engagement tasks simultaneously. Familiarity with green building concepts and terminology is required, along with proficiency in key digital platforms such as Google Suite, Zoom, Canva, and an aptitude for boots-on-the-ground, community-based work.
Key Responsibilities and Job Duties
- Support community outreach events and workshops related to our programs, assisting with planning and logistics, providing on-site support, and communicating with partners, organizers, and presenters
- Assist with research and data collection for programs content creation, including presentations, flyers, and educational resources, both print and digital
- Assist in the research and analysis of community demographics, market landscape, and best practices to inform outreach strategy
- Assist with programs reporting and evaluation, including performing survey data collection and analysis
- Perform outreach for various programs enrollment, including serving as a daily point person for communication with program participants when needed
- Assist with the implementation of clean technology deployments for energy/water efficiency and occupant health both on-site and remotely
- Perform site work and follow up reports for business certifications, property assessments, and technology deployments, including air quality sensor installations and BuildSMART trailer retrofits
- Assist with the logistical administration and storage of programs resources used for community engagement, including the BuildSMART trailer, printed materials, tabling kits, and giveaways
- Collect and organize supporting documentation for programs participants and maintain programs record-keeping systems
- Support the development of internal process documents and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for new programmatic initiatives
- Engage with interns and/or volunteers to help achieve program goals
- Provide administrative support and perform project management tasks for additional programmatic initiatives as needed
SKILLS NEEDED:
- Strong interpersonal, practical, and culturally competent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to communicate professionally with our team and all levels of management, as well as a diverse range of external stakeholders
- Innovative with the ability to adapt to change as a creative problem solver
- Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information
- Proficient with digital tools used for task, project, and relationship management, team collaboration, and reporting, such as G Suite, Canva, Jotform, Copper, Slack, and Monday.com
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
- Familiarity with building design, operations and maintenance terminology
- Green building professional certifications such as LEED, WELL, GPro a plus
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Reliable transportation means for in-person work including on-site visits with program participants
- Ability to travel to the USGBC-CA office in Downtown Los Angeles on a regular basis as well as to other locations across the region to support events and programmatic activities, as needed
- Fluency in English, Spanish (desired) – native or professional
TIME COMMITMENT & COMPENSATION:
This is a full-time, hybrid position. Location: Southern California preferred (San Diego or Los Angeles program focus) with occasional travel required throughout the region and to the USBGC-CA offices in Los Angeles. The salary range for this position is $45,000-60,000.
